19-22 July 2026
Centro Prove CNR ITAE, Salita S. Lucia sopra Contesse 5
Messina - Italy
An international summer school focused on hybrid thermal energy storage, renewable heat conversion, sustainability, technology transfer and real-world applications cofinanced by EERA.
About the School
The program is structured to provide a comprehensive and practical learning experience. The core is delivered through lessons organized across three levels: Technological (covering ES maturity and systems like low-to high-temperature storage, hybrid solutions, etc.), Sustainability and Development (analyzing economic, social, and policy factors, including new technological trends), and Case Studies (examining real-world applications and the role of initiatives like Mission Innovation and HORIZON 2020/Horizon Europe).
Beyond traditional lectures, the school places a high value on hands-on and real-world exposure. Participants will engage in laboratory experiences with visits to research centers, such as the University of Messina and the CNR ITAE. Furthermore, the program is enriched by industrial talks and visits involving CEOs or employees from leading companies in the sector. A key feature is the field visit to an industrial reality (e.g. A2A, ...), which provides tangible insight into how industrial operations integrate sustainability and value production, concluding with an open table discussion. This integrated approach, combining academic approach, research experience, and industrial perspective, aims to foster broad scientific and social interest and collaboration.
The school is designed to give young scientists and engineers a solid overview of the current state of hybrid thermal energy storage, from materials and system integration to sustainability, policy and industrial implementation.
